The music contest “New York Canta” (or “NYCanta”) celebrates this year its 15th edition. The final of NYCanta 2023 will take place on October 8 at the Oceana Theater in Brooklyn and will be subsequently broadcasted by Rai, Italy’s public television.
Ten finalists will be selected by a jury including popular Italian singers Noemi, Clementino, LDA, plus another big name yet to be announced. The president of the jury will be Claudio Cecchetto, producer, manager and founder of Italian national broadcaster “Radio Deejay”. They will award the best song, which has to be previously unreleased and sung in Italian.
During the final, the artistic director of the last four editions of the Sanremo Festival, Amadeus, will receive the special Frank Sinatra Award for Excellence in Entertainment.
New York Canta (“New York Sings”) is organized by the Italian cultural association of New York. Its president is entrepreneur and cultural manager Tony Di Piazza.
The song contest is open to singers and songwriters from all over the world. The winner will receive a monetary prize and other opportunities.
Sasà Taibi oversees the selection of the contestants, both in Italy and globally. He said: “When I was an emerging DJ, singer and showman I would have done anything to participate in a festival like this, with so many important people that could support me and teach me what I then learned on my own. It is a great occasion and anyone should give it a try. Because otherwise you’d miss the opportunity to meet such a high-level jury”.
