Il testo e il significato di una canzone dei Twenty One Pilots sono spesso una sintesi tra mondo reale e immaginazione: Overcompensate non è da meno. Il titolo fa riferimento al verbo inglese “to compensate”, utilizzato in Levitate (Trench, 2018) per indicare la contromisura a una mancanza o un errore. Il protagonista della storia Clancy, di cui il duo ha svelato il nome pochi giorni fa, si è risvegliato dal torpore e dall’illusione creata dai vescovi di Dema, metaforicamente rappresentata dal pop rock smaccato e colorato dell’ultimo Scaled & Icy. In Overcompesate, oltre ai rimandi testuali e musicali al brano Bandito, Tyler Joseph sembra far riferimento anche al suo rapporto con la religione cattolica. Ovviamente, il quadro completo lo avremo solo ascoltando tutte le tracce del nuovo album.
