MTV Video Music Awards 2023: le nomination complete

Taylor Swift è l’artista con più nomination agli MTV VMAs 2023: ben otto categorie. La seguono SZA (sei); Doja Cat, Kim Petras, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo e Sam Smith (cinque ciascun); e le BLACKPINK, Diddy e Shakira (quattro ciascuno).

Le donne agli MTV VMAs 2023

Le donne rappresentano sei dei sette nominati per Video of the Year: Attention di Doja Cat, Flowers di Miley Cyrus, Super Freaky Girl di Nicki Minaj, vampire di Olivia Rodrigo, Kill Bill di SZA e Anti-Hero di Taylor Swift. La settima nomination va a una collaborazione ormai storica: Unholy di Sam Smith e Kim Petras, che li ha resi i primi due solisti apertamente non binari e apertamente transgender, rispettivamente, ad avere una canzone alla #1 della Billboard Hot 100.

Per la prima volta da quando gli MTV VMAs hanno introdotto la categoria Artist of the Year nel 2017, tutti i nominati sono donne: Beyoncé, Doja Cat, Karol G, Nicki Minaj, Shakira e Taylor Swift. È anche la prima volta che due delle nominate provengono dal mondo della musica latina. Il primo artista latino ad essere nominato in questa categoria è stato Bad Bunny, che ha vinto lo scorso anno.

Niente Artist of the Year per SZA

Oltre alla nomination come Artist of the Year, Taylor Swift è in lizza per sette premi per la sua super hit Anti-Hero: Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects e Best Editing.

Taylor Swift e Kendrick Lamar sono entrambi nominati per Best Direction. Lamar è nominato per Count Me Out, che ha co-diretto con Dave Free. Sia Swift che Lamar hanno vinto due volte in questa categoria per i video che hanno diretto o co-diretto. Swift ha vinto per la regia di The Man (2020) e All Too Well (The Short Film) nel 2022. Lamar ha vinto per la co-regia di Alright (2015) e Humble (2017).

Nonostante il gran numero di nomination, SZA non è stata nominata come Artist of the Year. La sua hit Kill Bill è in lizza per cinque premi: Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Direction, Best Art Direction e Best Editing. Kill Bill non è stata nominata in una categoria di genere. Shirt di SZA è invece in lizza per Best R&B.

Le prime volte agli MTV VMAs 2023

Il 2023 segna un record di 35 artisti candidati agli MTV VMAs per la prima volta, tra cui Kim Petras (cinque); Metro Boomin e Rema (tre ciascuno); e Ayra Starr, GloRilla, Ice Spice, Peso Pluma, Reneé Rapp e Yung Miami (due ciascuno).

Altri artisti che ricevono nomination per la prima volta includono Aespa, boygenius, Burna Boy, Davido, Eslabon Armado, Fletcher, Fifty Fifty, JVKE, Lauren Spencer Smith, Musa Keys, PinkPantheress, Saucy Santana, Stephen Sanchez e Toosii.

GloRilla, Ice Spice, Peso Pluma e Reneé Rapp sono nominati come Best New Artist, insieme a Kaliii e PinkPantheress.

Gli MTV VMAs 2023 hanno aggiunto una categoria quest’anno: Best Afrobeats. È la terza categoria di genere che i VMAs hanno aggiunto nel nuovo millennio, dopo Latin (2006) e K-pop (2019). Le altre cinque categorie di genere dei VMAs sono state tutte introdotte nel secolo scorso: Rock (1989), Alternative (1991), R&B (1993) e Pop e Hip-hop (entrambe del 1999).

Come votare agli MTV VMAs 2023

Gli MTV VMAs 2023 si terranno martedì 12 settembre alle 20 (ora di New York) in diretta dal Prudential Center di Newark, in New Jersey. Il conduttore non è stato ancora annunciato. Jack Harlow, LL Cool J e Nicki Minaj hanno condotto lo show l’anno scorso, che si è tenuto nella stessa sede.

I fan possono già votare i loro artisti preferiti in 15 categorie di genere su vote.mtv.com fino a venerdì 1 settembre. La votazione per Best New Artist rimarrà attiva durante lo show. Le nomination per categorie come Group of the Year e Song of Summer saranno annunciate in un secondo momento.

Bruce Gillmer e il co-fondatore di Den of Thieves, Jesse Ignjatovic, sono i produttori esecutivi degli MTV VMAs 2023. Barb Bialkowski è co-produttrice esecutiva. Alicia Portugal e Jackie Barba sono le responsabili della produzione. Wendy Plaut e Lisa Lauricella sono le responsabili dei talenti (celebrità e artisti rispettivamente).
